The thermal decomposition products were identified by X-ray analysis, chemical analysis and IR spectrum. All of these EMD obtained give a crystal structure of γ-type and a chemical composition of MnO_. Upon heating at 600℃ in air, the thermal decomposition reaction of EMD proceeds in three stages, the first-step of 40℃ - (110℃ - 120℃), the second-step of (110℃ - 120℃) - (400℃ - 420℃) and the third-step of (400℃ - 420℃). Each of those stages depend on the desorption of adsorbed water, desorption of a part of a combined water and trace amount of oxygen in EMD, and a transition of EMD to Mn_2O_3 respcctively. At heating around 200℃ in air, (110) planeS of EMD (γ-MnO_2) already have a tendency to change slightly to (11O) planes of β-MnO_2. The lower the bath temperature and higher the concentrat1on of MnSO4 in the electroIyte, the weight loss of the EMD become large and the transition temperature of the EMD to α-Mn_2O_3 shift to lower value.
