年中児および年長児60名を対象にカメ・チョウ・ダンゴムシの生物学的知識と心的属性（感情・欲求）の付与を尋ね, 心の理論（誤信念課題）についても調査した。幼稚園での動物との関わりや自由遊びの様子について教師評定を行った。生物学的知識には年齢差も性差もあまり示されなかった。心的属性の付与を項目ごとに検討すると, 特に飼育対象であるカメに関して年中女児が他の幼児よりも付与が顕著であった。ただし, 教師も含めた5群で心的属性付与の合計点（擬人化得点）を比較すると, カメについては教師が最も高かったと同時に, チョウやダンゴムシについては教師が最も低かった。年長女児はどの対象動物についても他の幼児より一貫して低い擬人化を示していた。また, 生物学的知識が豊富である方がカメの擬人化が高いこと, 「心の理論」を獲得しているほどカメの擬人化が高いこと, イメージ遊びを多くする幼児ほどチョウへの擬人化が高いこと, 動物への関わりが多いほどダンゴムシ擬人化が低いという結果が得られた。これらの結果をもとに, 動物との関わりによって育まれる感性面と知識習得について論じた。キーワード：幼児, 動物飼育, 擬人化, 生物学的理解,
