It is thus important for nurses to provide skincare guidance to caregivers in the early stages. This study clarifies the reality of infant skincare guidance by nurses to caregivers, and obtains related recommendations. \n[Methods] A self-administered survey was conducted with 332 nurses involved in infant skincare guidance, working at maternity and health centers in the Tohoku region. \n[Results] Regardless of the work facility, in total, 71.4% and 50% nurses reported using gauze in the facial cleansing, and head and body skincare respectively. Furthermore, 69.5% taught facial cleansing with soap, 68.0% taught face moisturizing, and 13.5% taught head moisturizing. By work facility, nurses at the health centers provided more guidance on facial cleansing with soap （p<0.01） and moisturizing care（ p<0.01） than at the maternity facilities; while those at the maternity facilities provided more guidance on head and body skincare without gauze（ p<0.05）. By learning opportunity, nurses providing guidance based on self-study and learning at their work places were more likely to avoid gauze （p<0.01）, use soap in facial cleansing （p<0.01）, and conduct moisturizing care guidance （p<0.01）. \n[Conclusions] The results suggested that nurses did not provide sufficient evidence-based skincare guidance, and highlighted the need to learn such methods to ensure consistency in such guidance at maternity and health centers.
